Linda Wilkins
Journalist/Photographer
Practical Skills
I am interested in writing for a newspaper or magazine as a reporter who reports the news accurately and quickly. Because of my experience with editing, I would like to one day copy or content edit for a publication. On the side, I will still develop my skills as a photographer because it is a hobby of mine.
City Editor, Baylor Lariat newspaper
December 2012 - present
As the city editor, I am in charge of what content goes in the news section of the paper. I coordinate coverage of stories throughout the week. In addition, the reporters and staff writers report to me. I compile a daily budget of stories. Because I read each news story that goes into the paper, I am also in charge of the Twitter and Facebook accounts for the Lariat. I monitor other news outlets such as the Associated Press for breaking news. If needed, I will write stories.
Assistant City Editor, Baylor Lariat newspaper
August 2012 - December 2012
The assistant city editor works under the city editor and helps edit stories. Occasionally, I helped pull Associated Press content. I answered phone calls and responded to our customer's concerns. This job is a preparation for the city editor position. When there were not reporters or staff writers available, I would write stories.
Staff Writer, Baylor Lariat newspaper
January 2012 - August 2012
Four stories a week, one story daily was what was required of me as a staff writer. I generated content such as features, profiles, breaking news and columns for the paper.
Associate Editor, Waco Citizen newspaper
September 2011 - January 2012
As the associate editor, I wrote stories, designed and edited pages and conducted interviews. This position was a good spring board for me to gain experience necessary to work at the Lariat.
